Demonecromancy - Fallen From the Brightest Throne
Demonecromancy's debut album Fallen From the Brightest Throne is best understood as the band's attempt at innovative black metal, by mixing the dissonant and haunting atmospheres of Phantom with the infectious riff structures and pounding high-speed tempos of Norwegian giants like Mayhem and Burzum. The resulting Fallen From the Brightest Throne is relentless but varied enough to both be a satisfying black metal experience and to be recognizably new and not derivative of the past, as so much modern black metal is.
Following on the footsteps of Reiklos, the original 'Fantaclone' band that mixed Phantom's complex song structures and labyrinthine 'riff mazes' on their debut Lifeless, Demonecromancy opt instead for the opposite, to borrow Phantom's style of riffs over what amounts to typical early Norwegian song structures. Riffs clamp onto a rhythmic figure like early Vermin, then ride the rhythm and break it with deviations into chromatic skids, mixing riff and transition into an atmospheric pounding of ferocity. Like Phantom, this band refuses to relent and converts the more stately black metal fans into an unabashed pursuit of raw atmospheric brutality.
Fallen From the Brightest Throne is a must have black metal album from one of the most exciting newer bands.
