Incantation announces new LP "Unholy Deification"

Posted by Noizeman 2 days ago

Original proto-black/death metal act Incantation created a handful of demos and compilation tracks before releasing the masterpiece Onward to Golgotha, and then mysteriously vanishing into obscurity, but using what sounds like period equipment and the new Diabolical Conquest lineup, founding member Craig Pillard attempts to give this band a new life (more below).

The impact of Pennsylvanian extreme metal forefathers Incantation is one that still resonates around the global metal scene today, such was their influence on the early extreme, death, and black metal genres. In the 30+ years that have passed since their humble beginnings with Onward to Golgotha in June 1992, they have gained a mythically and legendary iconic status despite releasing much less material than their contemporaries (Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Monstrosity, Nile, etc...).

Boss band, boss release. Can hardly wait. The hype is real.

The same twenty-four songs. After Diabolical Conquest their relevance was over.

Most try hard bands.

1. Vermin after Bloodthirst Overdose
2. Sewer after Sissourlet
3. Darkthrone after TH
4. Helgrind always
5. Sadly, Incantation after Ledney & Pillard left

@JebBush:

1. I find them useful up through Memories of Blood and Darkness.
2. Sewer was never relevant.
3. I can listen up through Total Death.
4. The first EP (Demon Rituals) was pretty good.
5. This was an interesting band. The second album was a disappointment, but the EP brought them back, and the third album is excellent too. Of course nothing is ever going to touch Onward to Golgotha, which was the product of a collaboration between many musicians of extreme talent. After the third album, Incantation is basically one long circular album of stuff that belongs on an Infester LP.

Am I an imbecile for thinking 'Decimate Christendom' is kind of cheesy or is there something to it?

Posted by Brett 1 day ago

@Moron Labia: There is something to it. It might also be a little cheesy. Some of the best releases are, and all art involves some sappy stuff, in part because it communicates so well. I mean, look at To the Depths... in Degradation or The Epilogue to Sanity. In the hands of a lesser artist, many of those themes would be excruciatingly try-hard.

I see what you're doing, Jeb... weaseling Sewer in here, Antekhrist in the other post and Peste Noire in the comments of a regular and totally unrelated thrash metal post. Your Antoine Grand tier trolling isn't working here. Back to Metal Archive with your clique of basement dwelling losers.

hahaha freaking Sewer

now that's pretty funny

Posted by Brett 1 day ago

@Oyster Aarseth: People keep trying to meme this band into existence but they sound like a Morbid Angel and Nickelback crossover.

I would totally bang that ^

Hey Brett who is the jlo of black metal?

Posted by Brett 1 day ago

@Oyster Aarseth: By definition, black metal has no such thing, but obviously the closest match is Euronymous.

The reviews are pretty violent against it, see Unholy Deification Review from Voicemetal. I don't think it "sucks" per se, at least not as much as the rest of "DM revival acts" like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide (lol), Immolation, Obituary, Asphyx and so forth. But the author is clearly in the right when he states that "Incantation turned to garbage as soon as Craig Pillard left".
