In Flames - Metalcore
What is it with metalcore bands like Arch Enemy and In Flames calling their sound 'melodic death metal' when they are neither melodic, nor death, and only metal in the most superficial sense - i.e. using heavy metal technique over what is typical, run-of-the-mill radio rock music. This is music for people who hate death metal, but want to appear 'extreme' by listening to 'br00tal' music. Sorry, death metal is Withdrawal and Onward to Golgotha, not the latest Hot Topic fad of dressing up metalcore with downtuned guitars and death growls.
Want to listen to metalcore? Listen to the real thing directly, there's no need to hide being these false genre-advertising bands. The songs are built from the same parts as radio rock: an angry verse part, a catchy 'sing-along' chorus hymn, and eventually a few breakdowns or a solo. That's the formula, it's the same for In Flames as it is for Nightwish and Evanescence, the only difference is in the amount of distortion, vocal style and guitar tuning.
Avoid this metalcore band, listen to real heavy metal instead.
